Here we are at the beginning of our two heroes' adventure. They will face dangers they have never encountered before. They will know much more about each other. Truths will be revealed.

The Castle of Gron was situated in the Toxic Waste Pools of Norg, in the deep north. It would be a perilous journey, but if our two heroes make it, they will have the opportunity to face Gron the Microscopic Overlord and his black onyx dragon, Shuriken.

"Okay Boris," started Gus, "it looks like the dragon rider flew north. I'm guessing that's where his stronghold is."

Boris and Gus approached what appeared to be a small hill.

"What do you make of this?" asked Boris.

"I have no idea Boris, but let's go find out," said Gus.

They both ascended up the small hill. Slowly approaching the top, they started to see what appeared to be a large field.

"Whoa, come check this out Gus," said Boris in awe.

"It's, it's huge!" exclaimed Gus, his voice echoing in the large and vast field.

The field covered thousands of square micrometers. The field was filled with thousands of algae, as many as 80 different species. Luckily, they were harmless. They only roamed around, photosynthesizing when there was sunlight and scavenging for food when photosynthesis wasn't an option.

"This is amazing," marveled Boris.

"You said it Boris," Gus agreed. "This is amazing."

Although all the algae were harmless to Boris and Gus, there was still a danger in the Great Field unknown to them; a great predator known as the Prawn. It would feed on all the algae daily. There was a secret underground bunker called The Shelter. When it was the Prawn's feeding time, all the algae would scramble for The Shelter, preventing them from getting eaten, as the entrance was too small for the Prawn to enter. Alas, there were few unlucky algae that did not get to The Shelter in time. They perished in the Prawn's stomach acids. Suddenly, the Prawn appeared in plain view of Boris and Gus.

"What's that?!" exclaimed Boris quietly, "It looks scary."

"I don't know Boris, but I think the best thing we can do is try to avoid it," suggested Gus.

"Good idea," Boris said nervously.

"Hey Gus," said Boris, "I haven't told this to anyone, but I'm scared of creatures bigger than me."

"Boris, don't worry about that," assured Gus. "Of course bigger creatures will scare you! They're you know, much bigger and scarier than you."

"I guess you're right Gus," said Boris. "Thanks for that boost in confidence," Boris smiled. "Do you have any secrets Gus?"

"Heh, yeah, I have a fear," Gus started saying, "a fear of water. Surprised?" asked Gus.

"A bit surprised, yes," replied Boris. “It's a bit ironic considering that you're a water bear."

"That's what everyone tells me, but they make fun of me, unlike you," said Gus.

"I'm not that kind of guy," assured Boris, "I'm nice and friendly."

"Well, I'm glad about that," Gus smiled. "Well, now what? How do we get past the creature?" asked Gus.

"How about we run through the field?" suggested Boris.

"No! Running through the field is suicide!" argued Gus. "We need to think of a plan that is stealthy. A plan that can get us past the creature without getting its attention," said Gus professionally.

The Prawn had moved away from sight, probably far away from Boris and Gus's location.

"Okay," Boris started explaining, "see that algae down there?" Boris pointed. "Let's go ask him for any tips."

"Sounds like a plan!" Gus said excitedly.

The duo both descended down the hill to the algae.
The algae seemed to be busy, but he couldn't be too busy, right?

"Excuse me, sir!" exclaimed Boris.

"Yes?" replied the algae.

"You know that big creature that roams around this field?" asked Boris.

"Ah, the Prawn," said the algae. "By the way, my name is Dean."

"Why, hello Dean!" greeted Boris. "This is my friend, Gus."

"Hello Gus," said Dean.

"Hello Dean," Gus replied.

"So, is there any way to get past the Prawn without getting his attention?" Boris asked Dean.

"Yes, there is only one way," explained Dean, "through The Shelter."

"What is The Shelter?" Gus interrupted.

"The Shelter is an underground bunker specially made for us algae and all the other microscopic organisms that may stumble upon this field. The Shelter protects us from the Prawn because the entrance holes are much too small for him to get in," answered Dean. "It has two entrance holes, one in the south and one in the north, on the other side of this field. The south entrance is located just behind that kelp," pointed Dean.

"That's exactly what we need; a safe passage that leads to the other side of the field. Thank you Dean," said Boris.

"No problem," Dean replied.

“Race you to the south entrance!" Boris and Gus shouted.
They ran as fast as their feet could take them.

They may think it's a safe passage, but something unexpected will happen in The Shelter. It was always known as a safe place, until now.

To be continued...
